Small Business Regulatory Relief Update
In the beginning of November, A.8205-B McDonald/S.4120-B Akshar (small business regulatory relief) was delivered to the Governor. Unfortunately, the governor vetoed this legislation citing the following concerns:
- the exemption for violations of public health and safety is too narrow, it should apply to criminal matters as well
- it would delay “prompt compliance” with sexual harassment and/or discrimination claims
- it includes “several ambiguous provisions which would result in varying interpretations and inconsistent application across state agencies.”
Unshackle Upstate had issued a memo in support of this bill towards the end of the last legislative session. This legislation would have been a big win for small businesses in our area.
We will be advocating with other pro-business organizations to see similar legislation move forward in 2019.
