Greater Binghamton Chamber Receives COVID-19 Support Grant from Excellus BlueCross BlueShield; Distributes Free PPE Kits to Local Businesses

Binghamton, NY – The Greater Binghamton Chamber of Commerce has received $30,000 in financial support from Excellus BlueCross BlueShield to support the organization in its response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The grant funding was used to fund PPE supplies for local businesses, including face masks, hand sanitizer, microfiber cleaning cloths and disinfectant that kills COVID-19 on all high touch surfaces. The Chamber plans to distribute 500 PPE kits via a Drive Thru format at the Chamber office located at 5 S. South College Drive on Thursday, November 12, 2020 from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. PPE kits will also be available upon request beyond this initial distribution date.

Excellus BlueCross Blue Shield is providing financial support to a variety of entities across upstate New York to help offset the costs of personal protective equipment (PPE) and COVID-19 testing equipment and supplies, as part of its community response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We are so incredibly grateful to Excellus BlueCross BlueShield for their support of our community via this grant and their partnership with our Chamber,” said Greater Binghamton Chamber President and CEO, Stacey Duncan. “We know that times are tough for many of our local businesses right now, and we hope that being able to supply some of this necessary PPE can help alleviate at least a small cost. We know every bit can help. As the potential for COVID-19 transmission continues to be of great concern as we enter the cooler months, we want to encourage our business and community members to follow the health guidelines issued by our county and state health officials, and supplying some PPE to these businesses can help keep them operating safely.”

“These grants are vitally important to local organizations, like Chambers of Commerce, as they continue to provide support to the local business community during the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Excellus BlueCross BlueShield Regional President, Jessica Renner. “This is a crucial opportunity to again align with our community partners in providing the best possible assistance to our communities, particularly during this unprecedented time in our nation’s history, to protect the health of residents and employees as they continue to operate their businesses in a safe, responsible manner.”
