Greater Binghamton Chamber and The Agency To Host State of the Workforce Event on October 4
The Greater Binghamton Chamber of Commerce along with the Agency will be hosting a State of the Workforce Event on Friday, October 4. This event, sponsored by Cushman & Wakefield/Pyramid Brokerage Company, is going to be focused on providing updates on key sectors of the Broome County economy and how they are meeting their workforce demands. The sectors represented will be, healthcare, education, information technology, construction and skilled trades, engineering/design/production, and transportation/distribution.
The idea for this event originated from the Chamber’s Legislative Committee. Workforce demands continue to be one of the biggest challenge’s facing businesses across the country. Having access to a qualified and productive workforce is essential for success. Locally, The Agency’s Broome Talent Task Force, established in 2017, continues to develop and implement workforce strategies with a host of community partners. Both groups felt that this event would be a great opportunity for our community to dive deeper into this issue.
Stacey Duncan, Executive Director of The Agency remarked, “The growth of Broome’s economy will depend largely on our ability to compete in a competitive global market for talent and training. This event will provide a platform to hear directly from the industries in the center of this space and how we are working collaboratively to retain and attract a vibrant workforce.”
Amy Shaw, Chief Administrator of the Chamber reflected, “The power of collaboration between groups is so important when tackling a community issue like workforce. Together we can be more creative, more synergistic and ultimately more effective, than working on our own.”
At this event you can expect to hear from industry leaders about what they need in a workforce, what they are doing to meet this demand, and what community partners can do to help prepare our workforce to match the needs of our community. Each industry leader will be given approximately 5 minutes to talk about their specific industry. The Greater Binghamton Education Outreach Program will discuss some of their initiatives to help create a workforce pipeline for employers in our area. At the end of this event there will be a question and answer period.
