STREDC finalizes project suggestions
The Southern Tier Regional Economic Development Council met earlier this month to finalize their list of projects to suggest to the state. The council approve priority projects that will be submitted in a Consolidated Funding Application (CFA). Potential projects include canning and bottling for Little Venice sauces and North Brewery Beer, a smart greenhouse at SUNY Broome, and the processing of industrial hemp.
If awarded as a “top performer” the region could potentially be 1 of 5 regions to be awarded $20 million for their projects. If not a top performer, the STREDC would be awarded $10 million for the projects. Also discussed was the Greater Binghamton Fund, which will help fuel projects in the defined iDistricts across the Triple cities. A committee has been put together and projects are starting to be identified as appropriate for this fund. The final application will be submitted to Albany and the awards will be announced in December.
