Paid Family Leave Starts January 2018
Starting on January 1st, 2018, Paid family Leave (PFL) – one of the most comprehensive family leave programs in the nation – will take effect in New York. The regulations defined by the PFL program ensure that essentially all private employers in New York State will be subject to the law. The benefit will be paid for by a small payroll tax deduction, but employers will be required to purchase a PFL policy or self-insure for their employee’s coverage.

The Chamber attended a presentation from Attorneys at Hinman, Howard & Kattell on how to ensure your business is ready for PFL, so that we can make sure the Chamber is ready and also pass this information onto our members. If you are unaware if your business is ready, the Chamber is planning a webinar for later in July to help ensure that all businesses in Broome County comply with the law.
