GREATER BINGHAMTON CHAMBER TO HOST FREE SEMINAR FOR BUSINESSES ON PAID FAMILY LEAVE ACT ON SEPTEMBER 18
Binghamton – The Greater Binghamton Chamber of Commerce will host a FREE Seminar for the business community on the Paid Family Leave Act on Tuesday, September 18, from 8:30-9:30 a.m. at the Holiday Inn Binghamton, Carousel Room, 2-8 Hawley Street in Binghamton NY.
In 2016, Governor Cuomo signed into law the nation’s most comprehensive Paid Family Leave policy. Starting January 1, 2018, New York State’s Paid Family Leave started providing New Yorkers with job-protected, paid leave to bond with a new child, care for a loved one with a serious health condition or to help relieve family pressures when someone is called to active military service abroad. New York becomes only the fourth state in the nation to have a program like it.
The Chamber has assembled a group of panelists to discuss practical implementation of the Paid Family Leave Act. The Paid Family Leave Act radically changes the availability of job protected leave for most employees in New York, but implementation has sometimes been a rocky road. Come learn about how businesses are adjusting, what the legal landscape is, and what the future might hold.
Chamber President and CEO, Jennifer Conway, remarked, “It’s critical for businesses to become more familiar with the details of this newer law that began on January 1, 2018. It’s better to be pro-active and prepared when you need it, then scrambling to find more info when you are not ready.”
