Cuomo Calls Back Legislature
Last week, Governor Cuomo called back all the elected officials in an ‘extraordinary’ special session to wrap up the 2017 legislative session. Once the majority of Senators arrived back in the Capital, it took all of 90 minutes to approve the 72-page measure that was just introduced last Wednesday night.
This ‘omnibus bill’ extends mayoral control of New York City schools for two years, reauthorizes various local taxes for three years, provides funding for victims of Lake Ontario flooding, and renames the Tappen Zee Bridge for the late Mario Cuomo. Passage of this “big ugly” will officially close the 2017 legislative session and allow lawmakers to leave the Capital until January.
