Chamber participates in Akshar’s Business Advisory Council
Senator Akshar’s Business Advisory Council reconvened after the 2017 Legislative Session. The Senator reviewed the 2017 Legislative Session and that the council should be proud on successfully reforming parts of Workers’ Compensation and all employers in NYS will save an estimated 7%-8%.
Part of this reform is the issuing of new Medical Impairment Guidelines for Scheduled Loss of Use awards. The budget requires these guidelines be issued by 12/31/17 and the first round of guidelines will be submitted on September 1st. They will be open for public comment at this point. The Chamber will be actively reviewing them and submitting public comment to properly represent our membership.
At this meeting we also discussed initiatives the council should take in the 2018 legislative session and they included; mandate and tax relief (including Scaffold Law reform), MWBE requirements, Training & Education in regards to Workforce Development, pay equity, and the definition of public work for the prevailing wage.
